DMS’s movement curriculum supports the healthy development of the whole child from the fantasy world of play in the kindergarten through the introduction of competitive sports in the teenage years, when both body and soul are ready to be challenged.

In the lower grades, cooperative games that support the healthy development of relationship to others are emphasized. Growing out of Spacial Dynamics, the movement curriculum aims to balance one’s relationship to one’s self, to the surrounding space, and to the other persons involved.

The movement curriculum is also integrated with the general curriculum, with high points like the Pentathlon in fifth grade and the Medieval Games in sixth grade allowing for a full body experience of the time periods and themes being studied during main lesson.

During the seventh and eighth grade years students are introduced to a variety of traditional team sports and have an opportunity to participate in the after school athletic program. Such activities as ultimate frisbee, soccer, volleyball, flag football, adventure games and orienteering are included during movement classes with certain sports available within the after school league of the Arizona Canyon Athletic Association (AZCAA).

The High School movement focuses on progressive development of the sports and activities mentioned above with the expectation of a higher level of involvement and participation of individual play within team sports.

Students within all grades are encouraged to invest in the health and wellness of their lives at age appropriate levels including exercise and making wise choices for nutrition and personal development. It is hoped that they seek within themselves to assert their interests, abilities, skills, and talents as a progressive process into becoming a fulfilling adult.
